Associate Attorney — The Hull Firm
St. Mary’s School of Law. Federal Violent Crimes Unit clerkship, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Texas. Bexar County DA’s Office clerkship. Worked up through every level at The Hull Firm — paralegal, law clerk, attorney.
Katie Barnwell started her legal career from the ground up. She began at the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a B.A. in Sociology alongside a paralegal certification. She then worked as a paralegal — gaining firsthand knowledge of how cases actually move through the system — before pursuing her law degree at St. Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio.
At St. Mary’s, Katie completed two significant clerkships that distinguish her background. She clerked with the Violent Crimes Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Texas, one of the most serious prosecution environments in the federal system. She also clerked with various units within the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, gaining direct exposure to how Bexar County prosecutes criminal cases.
Katie then clerked at The Hull Firm itself before joining as an attorney. That progression — paralegal, federal violent crimes clerkship, state DA clerkship, law firm clerk, attorney — means she has seen criminal cases from more angles than most attorneys at any stage of their career.
She is committed to providing thorough, detailed representation to clients in Austin and the surrounding areas, and her procedural foundation — built from working at every level of the system — informs how she evaluates evidence and prepares cases.
Katie handles misdemeanor and felony criminal cases across Austin and the surrounding area. Her federal clerkship background and DA office exposure give her a specific understanding of how serious charges are built and evaluated by the prosecution side.
